My Journey
Come! Follow Me To Mountain
By Journalist Nidhi Mudgill on Life As A Traveler
Somehow looking at the map of a place excites us. Looking at routes we could take, places we could stop at, villages/towns we want to pass, it's so much fun!
Greetings everyone! This is Nidhi Mudgill, I am a Journalist and a 9 to 10 traveler, often consider myself as the human mountain vampire! I love mountains and I am on my way to visit every mountain in the world.
My love for mountains and travel started in my College days. I would visit the nearby hill stations with my College Friends and family. I often used to go to Palampur in Himachal Pradesh to be a part of workshops. There is something peaceful about a mountain and I was always drawn towards that. Once all my friends refused to go to a workshop in Himachal, but I had to go there, so I went to the workshop in the mountains alone without friends, since then I got the courage that I can travel alone.
Perhaps, that was the reason I picked up Uttarkashi for my next job location. Soon, I saw myself traveling and trekking a lot. My first solo trek was to Dainkund, Dalhousie, Himachal. which at that time was very exotic. Earlier, I had done my mountain journey in a workshop, I was the senior in a group of that workshop. we were quite outrageously adventurous. It's a common saying that mountains make their own weather, and on reaching the top we saw that. A warm pleasant day turned into a thunderstorm. I felt an even stronger connection with the mountains. Thankfully, the weather got better soon and we finished our trek with some breathtaking views.
Apart from being in nature, I love to travel because you get to meet so many new people. I never miss a chance to go to the mountains, For that reason, I moved to Uttarakhand. I came home after living in Dehradun and Uttarkashi for many months, but my love for the mountains grew more and more, I have come across the mountains of most of the states of India. Although I love this life, it isn’t easy to sustain. I work hard during the day, earn a comfortable income and use it to fuel my travels around India. I have done a lot of work for the people and for the environment by going to the mountains and will continue to do so.
“Every other day, I feel the mountains are calling me, and I hope as times get better I and Anunay will resume travel and share my nomadic experiences with you guys."
